Jaro Cathedral, originally a visita of Oton, was established on March 3, 1575, to serve the growing Catholic community in the area. In 1584, it was transferred as a visita under the jurisdiction of Arevalo before finally becoming an independent parish in April 1587. Dedicated to Our Lady of the Nativity, the church has since played a significant role in the religious and cultural history of Jaro, Iloilo, witnessing centuries of devotion, colonial influence, and architectural evolution.
