In the 1700s, Magsungay was renamed San Sebastian de Magsungay under St. Sebastian’s protection. Due to pirate attacks, residents moved to higher ground, forming Bacolod. In 1806, Fr. Leon Pedro became the first parish priest, and later, Fr. Gonzaga led the church's construction.
